Blairstown Hose Company #1

Blairstown Hose Company #1 has been providing fire protection since 1889. It is comprised of a dedicated group of volunteers who are our friends and neighbors. The members have full-time jobs and often are called away from these jobs to respond to an emergency. In addition to being on call 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, the firefighters routinely conduct drills and attend training classes. By learning and practicing their skills, they are better able to protect our community.

In 2004, Blairstown Hose Company #1 responded to 221 calls, 50 more calls than in 2003 and 88 more than in 2002 (in an area of coverage that is one of the largest in the State). Each year during Fire Prevention Week, we can find members hosting fire prevention programs at our local schools and day care centers, just one of many other ways these volunteer contribute to us.

Our firefighters are urging us to test our smoke detectors and replace batteries twice a year (perhaps when we change our clocks). We should also consider the use of carbon monoxide detectors.
